Toyota RAV4

Ranked 5th out of 20 Affordable Compact SUVs by US News, the 2012 RAV4 is well liked by reviewers for its ample cargo space, option for a third row (a rarity in its class), and a more powerful optional V6 engine. There are three different trims to choose from, namely the base, performance-oriented sport, and top-of-the-line Limited. Each comes with a choice of either the 4 cylinder or V6 engine, giving you the flexibility to pick a RAV4 that's anywhere from basic and fuel efficient to sporty, powerful, and/or luxurious. While not significantly revamped for 2012, the RAV4 does feature a new standard sound system and all models now include hands-free phone connectivity, music streaming via Bluetooth, and phone book access. The Limited trim also offers an available display audio system with navigation, Toyota Entune services, HD Radio with iTunes tagging, text-to-voice capabilities, and XM Satellite Radio (with a 90 day trial subscription). Entune equipped models enable drivers to use mobile applications and data services such as Pandora Internet radio by simply pairing their smartphone to their RAV4.
The base model includes features such as keyless entry, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power mirrors, cruise control, and an electroluminescent instrucment panel. The Base Plus Extra Value Package adds a number of beefed up options for the base model including 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, daytime running lights, tilt/slide moonroof, privacy glass, a 6 CD player with XM satellite radio (subscription required), steering wheel audio controls, and upgraded fabric for the interior. The 2012 edition also features an electronic brake-override system, which automatically reduces engine power when the brakes and accelerator are applied simultaneously.
With an MSRP starting at USD $22,650 for the base model, the RAV4 is priced similar to the Honda CR-V yet it has a snazzier look, an equal or slightly better fuel economy, and options for V6 power and a third row seat, making it one of the few compact SUVs to offer a seven-passenger seating capacity. The 2012 RAV4, equipped with the standard 2.5L, 4-cylinder, 179 HP engine gets similar gas mileage to the 2011 edition and rates at 22/28 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive and 21/27 mpg city/highway with all-wheel drive. With the more powerful 269 HP V6 engine, the EPA ratings were observed to be 19/27 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive and 19/26 mpg city/highway with all-wheel drive. The V6 engine offers almost twice the horsepower as the original RAV4 engine and is easily the most powerful engine in the compact SUV class. As we mentioned, the interior can seat up to seven people and you also have options for a leather upholstery and navigation system. Last but not least, if you're looking for something that will retain its value over time, you'll be pleased to hear that the RAV4 is one of Kelley Blue Book's Best Resale Value award winners. With Toyota still recovering from its recall issues, dealers are more likely to negotiate on some terrific deals. Don't miss your opportunity to grab this puppy!
